The war in Ukraine is a great test for our whole society, especially for our colleagues from Ukraine. Especially my colleagues from the construction division were directly affected by the war. Some had to return home and protect their country, while other colleagues unexpectedly had to take care of the wives and children of their loved ones who had fled the war to the Czech Republic.
During March and April 2022, when thousands of war refugees streamed into the Czech Republic every day, our office was transformed into a temporary refugee assistance centre. A humanitarian collection for the town of Mykolayiv also took place in our office on Jiřího z Poděbrad Square. Our staff helped refugees to arrange visas, health insurance, SIM cards and accommodation for more than 200 Ukrainian women and children. In addition, our company also lent a company car to volunteers who picked up refugees at the Ukrainian border.
We also managed to negotiate discounted rent for 35 apartments for Ukrainian families and furnish them with basic furniture and bedding. This would not have been possible without the generous help of our business partners – real estate group RFP, design company Sella Furniture, floor heating supplier LARX – and donations from individuals – Martin Galovich, Karel Zheng, Ilya Kulik and Alisher Nurakhmetov.
